BiographyProf Redmond is a podiatrist by background and is now Professor and Head of Clinical Biomechanics and Physical Medicine in the Institute for Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine at the University of Leeds. He heads a research group exploring the interactions between mechanical factors and biology, covering a range of musculoskeletal conditions and spanning rheumatology, orthopaedics and allied health professions. He has published extensively, with more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers and contributions to most of the major rheumatology and related textbooks. As a podiatrist he has a focus on research into foot and ankle conditions and, 20 years ago, developed the Foot Posture Index, an assessment instrument now in use clinically in more than a dozen countries and which has received more than 150 citations in the scientific literature. In recent years his portfolio has expanded to include a range of lower limb-related pathologies and interventions including hip and knee replacement. Prof Redmond has a long track record in helping develop the careers of others, through his work pioneering research internship schemes, a growing cadre of medical and non-medical clinical research fellows and mentorship.
