BiographyDavid Dearnaley has been Professor of Uro-Oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH) since 2003. He is currently Chairman of the RMH/ICR Committee for Clinical Research and Prostate Cancer Theme Lead for the RMH/ICR NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. He was appointed NIHR Senior Investigator in 2008/2012 and has previously chaired the MRC and NCRI Prostate and Radiotherapy Study Groups. Principal areas of research are in the development of conformal, dose escalated and, subsequently, intensity modulated (IMRT) and image guided (IGRT) radiotherapy treatments for prostate cancer. He has led phase III randomised trials to establish these in clinical practice with subsequent inclusion in NICE guidance. He is Chief Investigator leading a multicentre trial of IMRT using hypofractionated schedules; known as CHHiP this is the largest academic treatment trial completed in prostate cancer. He leads translational research projects using novel biomarkers aiming to personalise radiotherapy management.
