BiographyJohn Collinge is Professor of Neurology and Head of the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease and Director of the MRC’s Prion Unit at the UCL Institute of Neurology. He graduated in medicine from Bristol University in 1984 and trained in clinical neurology at St Mary’s Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London where he is an honorary consultant neurologist. Research interests are in the molecular biology of prion diseases and their wider relevance to common neurodegenerative and other diseases involving protein misfolding. Professor Collinge is committed to building multidisciplinary teams and industrial collaborations to enable effective translation of molecular advances to clinical practice. He is a Founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, was awarded a CBE in 2004 for services to medical research and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2005.
