Biography   Paul Little is Professor of Primary Care Research in the Primary Care Group, Community Clinical Sciences Division at the University of Southampton. Professor Little’s research on antibiotic prescribing strategies for sore throat, otitis media and acute lower respiratory tract infection has changed prescribing practice in the UK, and provided both the impetus and the major input to the recent NICE guidance on antibiotic prescribing in addition to modifying international guidance (SIGN; US AAP). He leads an NIHR Programme Grant, two MRC grants, and was workpackage leader for two European grants on the subject of respiratory tract infections. He also has major interests in patient centred consulting, and in health promotion – having recently led a major MRC trial on the use of exercise, massage and Alexander Technique for back pain. In addition to providing the GP input to four recent NICE guidelines, he was a member of RAE 2008 and REF 2014 panels, served both the MRC/NIHR EME Board, and as a main panel member, was subpanel chair for the NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR) Board, and is now director of PGfAR.
