BiographyProfessor Carlos Caldas FACP FRCP FRCPath FMedSci, is Professor of Cancer Medicine at the University of Cambridge, Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute and Honorary Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is Director of the Breast Cancer Research Unit. He is the Lead of the Cambridge Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and Co-Lead of the Cancer Theme within the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the European Academy of Cancer Sciences. His main translational research interest is breast cancer, where he has developed an international leading programme on classification, prognostic and predictive biomarkers, aiming at delivering personalized cancer therapeutics. He has also lead the international consortium that develop the guidelines used to manage hereditary diffuse gastric cancer in the NHS and beyond. He has secured significant research funding and published extensively in the top biomedical journals. Working with colleagues at the Hospital, University, Cancer Research UK, ECMC and NIHR he is one of the leaders of the Cambridge Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
