BiographyDudley Pennell is Professor of Cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London. He is Director of the National Institute for Health Research Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit, Director of the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Unit, and Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology & Inherited Cardiac Conditions at Royal Brompton Hospital, Chelsea His research interests are in CMR, specifically in the measurement of myocardial iron and the assessment of chelation treatment, the assessment and differentiation of cardiomyopathies, the detection and assessment of early atherosclerosis, and myocardial perfusion imaging. This work has resulted in a substantial reduction in mortality in thalassaemia patients, and an enormous growth of the use of CMR in inherited cardiac conditions. Professor Pennell has published ~500 research papers and has received a number of fellowships, including in 2014 to the Academy of Medical Sciences.
