BiographyIn my early research as an undergraduate I worked on the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease in the Hardy group identifying mutations in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene as a cause of this disorder. I subsequently went to work at the Mayo clinic identifying Tau gene defects and then returned to UCL as a Wellcome Trust research fellow in peripheral neuropathy and ataxia genetics, and then as a clinician scientist and senior fellow in ataxia, neuromuscular disorders and other neurogenetic conditions. My group currently works on rare inherited neurological disorders with a particular interest in neuromuscular, channel, paroxysmal disorders and ataxia. We developed a next generation sequencing facility at the Institute of Neurology where I lead the diagnostic Neurogenetics laboratory. Over the last 2 years we have worked closely with the Genomics England Sequencing program with three nurses and a co-ordinator recruiting patients for this initiative, i also sit on the Genomics England steering committee and co-lead the Neurology and Neurodegeneration Genomics England clinical interpretation partnership (GeCIP).
