BiographyJane is Professor of Tissue Viability and Clinical Trials Research and Deputy Director of the Leeds Institute Clinical Trials Research, School of Medicine, University of Leeds. Jane qualified as a nurse in 1983 and gained her PhD in 2001 whilst a senior nurse in the NHS. Jane leads a nationally recognised CTU portfolio of NIHR funded skin research working with investigators in the dermatology, diabetes, vascular surgery and tissue viability specialties. The developing portfolio includes methodological work and adaptive designs. In addition, she leads an internationally renowned programme of research in pressure ulcer prevention and has secured NIHR funding and delivered two large mattress trials (with a third in progress) as well as applied health research in areas including pressure ulcer pain, severe pressure ulcers, risk factors, risk assessment, quality of life and patient reported outcome measures, with a strong practice focus. She has established a national network of research active centres and international collaborations to support consensus work, core outcome set and guideline development and is currently President elect of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel. Addressing an unmet need, she has also established the Pressure Ulcer Research Service User Network (PURSUN UK – www.pursun.org.uk) which is using innovative approaches to facilitate user involvement and engagement in all aspects of research activity.
