BiographyJohn Primrose is Professor of Surgery at the University of Southampton and Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. He is Clinical Director of the NIHR Wessex CRN and Chairs the NCRI Upper GI Clinical Studies Group. He is Past President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. His clinical work is in gastrointestinal cancer and he is senior surgeon in a large hepatopancreatobiliary service, with a specialist interest in the surgery of liver malignancy. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. For years Professor Primrose has run a successful research programme in clinical and translational aspects of gastrointestinal cancer, which is funded by principally by NIHR and CRUK. He is CI of several national trials on colorectal and biliary tract cancer. His academic group includes clinical academics with fellowships from NIHR, MRC and CRUK. He has authored around 200 scientific papers including in JAMA, Lancet and Lancet Oncology. He lectures widely at national and international meetings.
