BiographyMy work has primarily focussed on improving access to effective psychological treatments for common mental health problems such as depression. This has included work to develop and test interventions, and then to translate these into routine clinical environments. I now run a multi-centre research team funded by the UK Medical Research Council and the National Institute for Health Research, the results of which have been fundamental to the organisational, educational and clinical methods at the heart of the UK Department of Health's 'Improving Access to Psychological Therapies' (IAPT) programme from its inception in 2005. I led the development of IAPT ‘low-intensity’ treatment methods and was Clinical Informatics Advisor to the UK Department of Health from 2008-2011. I am also responsible for the – REFLECTION Research Network Programme (funded by the European Science Foundation) which is developing expertise in complex interventions research methods for nursing and other allied health care professionals.
