BiographyPaula Williamson is Professor of Medical Statistics at the University of Liverpool and Director of the Clinical Trials Research Centre, incorporating the UK Medicines for Children Research Network CTU. She established the MRC North West Hub for Trials Methodology Research and currently chairs the MRC HTMR Network. She has been a member of the UKCRC Registered CTU Network Steering Group since its inception. She has a long-standing interest in reducing the waste in research. She set up the COMET Initiative in 2010 jointly with Mike Clarke, Jane Blazeby and Doug Altman, to try to improve the consistency and relevance, to decision-makers including patients, of the outcomes measured in clinical research and audit. She is interested in methods to improve trials feasibility, including the use of informatics approaches for recruitment and data collection. Her methodological work has most notably informed treatment decisions, clinical guidelines and driving policy for people with epilepsy.
