BiographyKeith Abrams is Professor of Medical Statistics, in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Leicester, having previously held appointments at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry, London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and a Chartered Statistician. His research interests are primarily concerned with the development and application of Bayesian methods in biomedical research and healthcare evaluation, and in particular their application to clinical trials, meta-analysis/evidence synthesis, and economic evaluation/decision modelling. He has been extensively involved with the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme and National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE) appraisal process in the UK since their inception. He is currently a member of the NICE Appraisals Committee, and a member of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Evaluation and Trials Committee, having also been a member of the East Midlands Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Committee.  He has published widely in both substantive and methodological areas, as well as co-authoring books on Methods for Meta-Analysis in Medical Research and Bayesian Approaches to Clinical Trials and Healthcare Evaluation, and co-editing one of the first texts on Methods for Evidence-based Healthcare.
