BiographyJon Deeks is Professor of Biostatistics in the Unit of Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham, having previously held appointments at the Centre for Statistics in Medicine at the University of Oxford, School of Public Health at the University of Sydney, the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at the University of York and the Queen Mary and Westfield College at the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and a Chartered Statistician. Professor Deeks’ three main methodological research interests are concerned with the evaluation of medical tests (primarily for diagnostic purposes), meta-analytical methods for evaluating tests and interventions, and the use of non-randomized studies to evaluate health care interventions. Currently he leads a research team focusing on methodology for test evaluation, including supporting test evaluations in primary studies and systematic reviews and advising the NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme on commissioning evaluations of tests.  He has led the introduction of systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy into the Cochrane Library, and is executive editor of the Cochrane Test Accuracy Editorial Team.
