BiographyDavid Clark is Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Magdalen College. He is Director of the Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma, which is part of the NIHR Oxford Cognitive Health Clinical Research Facility. He has played a prominent role in the creation of the English Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme and is the Department of Health’s National Clinical Advisor for the initiative. He received a CBE for services to mental health in 2012. He is also a Fellow of the British Academy (London), a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (London), and Distinguished Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (USA). Professor Clark's research, which combines experimental and clinical studies, focuses on cognitive processes in the maintenance and treatment of anxiety disorders. With colleagues, he has developed new and effective psychological treatments (forms of cognitive-behaviour therapy) for four different anxiety disorders:panic disorderhypochondriasissocial phobia andpost-traumatic stress disorder. These treatments figure prominently in current NICE Guidelines.
