BiographyDavid Gunnell is Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol. He is the lead investigator on an NIHR programme of research in support of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England. His research is focused on two main areas:national and international population strategies for improving mental health and preventing suicide, andearly life influences on adult chronic disease risk – particularly mental illness – and the biological mechanisms underlying these influences.  Professor Gunnell is a member of the MHRA’s Pharmacovigilance Expert Working Group and the South Asian Clinical Toxicology Research Collaboration (SACTRC). He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well providing academic support to the South West Region’s public health specialist training programme.
