BiographyDavid Neal is Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Cambridge. His clinical practice is focused on prostate and testis cancer and robotic surgery including translational studies of prostate cancer and he leads an NCRI-funded collaborative which aims to identify biomarkers for prostate cancer. He is also one of three Principal Investigators on ProtecT (Randomised Control Trials funded by NIHR).  As Group Leader in the Cambridge Research Institute (CRUK), he studies mechanisms of androgen resistance. Recent discoveries include: how younger men deal with PSA, testing novel genes associated with prostate cancer (collaboration with Eeles and Easton), and new binding sites for the androgen receptor and how the AR is imported into the nucleus. This latter approach has identified novel targets for treatment for prostate cancer (Massie et al, EMBO J, 2011). Professor Neal has trained five people who are now Chairs of Urology and four who are Clinical Senior Lecturers. Over fourteen research fellows are Teaching Hospital Consultants and one research fellow is a Clinician Scientist.
