BiographyStefan Neubauer is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford. He is Head of the University Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Professor Neubauer is Director of the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research, one of the leading centres for cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Prof. Neubauer’s work has been devoted to two scientific topics: 1. Development and application of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging and spectroscopy, and 2. Role of cardiac metabolism in ischemia and heart failure. He has published >350 original manuscripts and leads a research group of 40 co-workers. Editorial positions and contributions to scientific bodies include his involvement with the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (President 2006-2007), and the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (Chairman 2008-2010). He is an International Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal, Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, Co-Editor of Magnetic Resonance Materials. He chairs the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Research Group, to develop CMR multicentre studies that have the potential to change clinical practice. He is Co-Principal Investigator of the HCMR study (NIH funded study of 2750 patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, using CMR, genetics and biomarkers) and Co-Lead for the UK Biobank cardiovascular imaging enhancements (a population study that will obtain CMR scans on 100,000 subjects). Stefan Neubauer is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford. He is Head of the University Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Professor Neubauer is Director of the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research, one of the leading centres for cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Awards and Honours include the American Heart Association Paul Dudley White International Lectureship Award, the British Cardiovascular Society Thomas Lewis Lecture, the European Magnetic Resonance Award and the SCMR Gold Medal. He is a fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences and an NIHR Senior Investigator.
