BiographyJames Neilson is Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Liverpool, and Consultant Obstetrician at Liverpool Women's Hospital. He is also NIHR Dean for Training.  He has worked in Scotland and Zimbabwe and has been involved, as co-investigator, in several clinical trials in pregnancy, including the Magpie Trial of magnesium sulphate in pre-eclampsia that has radically changed clinical practice in the UK and elsewhere. Since 1995, he has been Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Pregnancy & Childbirth Group. This is the most productive review group in the international Cochrane Collaboration and has published more than 350 systematic reviews; many have been cited in NICE and other national clinical guidelines.  Professor Neilson has collaborated in recent years in people-based research in Malawi, with a focus on preterm birth - its causes, consequences and prevention. This has complemented UK-based work on premature labour in women with multiple pregnancies.
